Though there is no dearth of online games, people all over the world are crazy about a genre which is known as RPG or the role playing games. These games can be played on the PC or a gaming console like Xbox or PS2. Irrespective of the platform they are played on, there are some common features in these role playing games that make people go gaga over them. There are three features that are most important for any RPG and these are how players advance to higher levels, whether it has variety to sustain the interest of the gamers for long and finally the pay-off.
Advancement
Majority of the role playing games are real time based which means players have to play them for long time and perform the functions required by the developers of the game to earn point so as to be able to advance to next levels of the game. Advancement also depends upon acquiring new and better skills which help the player to beat other enemies in the game. But some players find it irritating to invest long hours of play to advance in the game. There is a very popular RPG called World of Warcraft, or WoW in short which requires players to collect gold, which is the in game currency to advance to higher levels. Rich players from the west, instead of spending time in the game, buy gold from players from poor countries who invest long hours in the game, in lieu of real dollars. This has become an illegal business and is known as gold farming.
Variety
This is the most important feature of any online game, as howsoever good the graphics and audio may be, any game can survive for a long time only if it has substance. Not only the storyline but also the game play must be such as to sustain the interest of the players for a long time. If there is monotony or there is repetition in successive levels, players lose interest and the game itself loses steam. This is why new versions of any RPG keep coming in to add some new features so as to catch the attention of the gamers and also to attract new players.
Pay-off
This is vital for any RPG to survive. You cannot expect players to spend hundreds of hours without rewarding them in some manner. With rewards, they get a feeling that they are getting something in return.
I’m gonna review one of my favorite classic RPG game, Final Fantasy 8. Keep reading…
Story
The story of FF 8 is not too complicated like others RPG games such as Xenogears and Chrono Cross. You play as Squall Leonheart, a group leader of future mercenaries who has mission to stop an ancient sorceress and save the world from destruction. Unfortunately, the story doesn’t develop well.
It’s all about love
The love story between Squall and Rhinoa is very famous, it could be the main story of FF 8.
FF 8 Characters
*Squall Leonheart
A very handsome 17 years old boy. He is antisocial person and only cares about himself.
*Rhinoa Heartily
If Rhinoa was a real person, she could be the prettiest girl ever!!
*Quistis Trepe
She is a complicated girl and it seems that she also loves Squall.
*Zell Dincht
Squall’s very best friend. Unfortunately, he is an impatient person.
*Selphie Tilmitt
A transferred student who always looks happy. She has a cute face and funny weird hair.
*Irvine Kinneas
A cool cowboy with cool weapon. But the truth, he is weaker than he looks.
Gameplay
*The battle system of this game is very unique. Unlike FF 7, you no longer can get money after defeating monster, but you can get it from your job. The most interesting of this game is you can summon some big creatures called Guardian Force (GF). They will help you a lot in defeating monsters and bosses in this game. There are so much GF in FF 8 world, it takes hours if you want to collect all of the Guardian Force.
*No armor you can find along the game. And you must upgrade your weapon periodically.
*Each character has no special magic since magic is an item in this game. But you can get magic by stealing it from the enemies.
*Junction system
You can add certain magics to your weapon (such as firaga). It is much easier to beat the game if you know how to master this system.
*The strongest boss in previous series, Ultima Weapon, also appears in this game. Make sure you have reached level 100 if you want to fight this boss.
Graphics
Unlike FF 7 and FF 9, the characters in FF 8 look realistic and very detailed. The game backgrounds also look so cool and amazing. And the best part is the opening FMV. (it could be the best opening FMV in the playstation console)
If you are a classic RPG games collector, you should add FF 8 to your list.
Thanks for reading my review…

Copying Xbox 360 games is no longer a problem thanks to advancements in technology. This is great news for gamers all around the world, as copying our favourite video games used to be a huge problem. When the Xbox 360 first hit stores the only way to play copied games on them was if you purchased some additional hardware from 3rd parties. This hardware is known as a modulation chip. A modulation chip tricks the video game system into thinking that the copied disk being inserted is the original disk; while this may sound great it usually didn’t work out that way.
However there is a more effective and clear alternative to play copied games on your console without the need of a modulation chip. All you have to do to make perfect copies of your original video games is to firstly get the required tools, these tools include: a PC, original game, blank disks, special software to copy the game and a step by step tutorial will also come in handy to help you create perfect backup games.
I would highly recommend you to make copies of your video games after all you don’t want to damage something that costs $40 to $50 and then have to go out and buy it again. Copying Xbox 360 games is perfectly legal if you own the game, very safe and very simple to do and you can create perfect copies of your favourite video games within minutes even if you’re a completely new to using a computer.
The objective of this game is to travel around the “Maple World.” Defeating monsters and making friends along the way. In MapleStory, you and your friends are able to band together and take on tough bosses (such as Zakum, Horned Tail, and it’s newest addition, a boss that has still never been defeated, Pink Bean.) MapleStory is a great way to pass time, and talk to different people everyday!
Users can form Guilds, to help and aid each other. This heavily promotes teamwork and also helps them advance. They may also combine Guilds together and form an “Alliance.” They may chat amongst the other guild members in said Alliance.
Players can participate in events held by the “Game Masters” (GMs) when they are held. The events can be from Jump Quests (where players must use timed jumps to get over obstetrical), to races.
The Cash Shop is a section of the game where players can use real money to earn points to spend in-game. Each dollar is worth one thousand (1000) points (or Nexon Cash.) They can then buy new clothes and accessories, Skill Point resets, 2x EXP cards and a ticket to MapleStory’s own lottery, Gachapon. There generally two ways to earn Nexon Cash. One, is by using your PayPal account to transfer your amount to Nexon. The second is by purchasing prepaid cards at certain stores, and charging them to your account. So far, the cards will give you either 10,000 and 25,000 Nexon cash depending on what card you buy.
As MapleStory is a very social game, Party Questing (PQs) are highly used by the community. It’s a quest which players must band together and from a “party” and take on various tasks. This also promotes teamwork.
Of course, if you feel like playing alone, MapleStory has that too. There are a load of maps you can train from alone and many different monsters to choose from.
It seems as if video games have been around forever. Almost everyone remembers the first game they played. But looking at the history of video game consoles, it’s really only necessary to go back to the early 1970s. That’s when it all started.
The very first video game console was released in 1972. It was called The Magnavox Odyssey. The Odyssey was analog rather than digital and operated on battery power. It didn’t really take the world by storm at least partly because the Magnavox company tried to fool consumers into believing that the system would only work on Magnavox televisions.
Next up was the Atari generation of video games. The Atari Pong game systems were wildly successful. The company teamed up with Sears who marketed the gaming consoles in their stores giving Atari a huge advantage over The Odyssey. Although several other companies attempted to market consoles, none could compete with the Atari.
And they maintained their position of dominance until the video game console crash in 1983 when the bottom fell out of the industry. This happened as a result of market over-saturation, with too many systems and low quality games, while at the same time, personal computers were becoming more affordable and offered better gaming experiences.
When the dust cleared a few years later, the Japanese took control of the gaming console industry with Nintendo and Sega leading the way. The quality of the games ignited a huge resurgence of interest in gamers that is still going strong.
Video game consoles as we know them began in the mid 1990s. The move away from cartridges to DVDs allowed for the development of longer and much more visually interesting games.
In looking at the history of video game consoles, it is nothing short of amazing to realize how far gaming has come in such a short time.
